Passive and Impersonal. If the actor of an action is unclear, one uses a passive-impersonal form. Here are some sample sentences to show you how they work. If you hover your mouse arrow over the speaker icon you can hear the sentence spoken.

Do buailtí iad.	They used to be struck.
Raghfar.	People will go.
Gheofaí an t-airgead.	The money would be found.
Do briseadh na huibhe.	The eggs were broken.
Deintear arán de phlúr.	Bread is made of flour.
Buailtear an coirce le súiste.	The oats are threshed with a flail.
Do crúdh na ba.	The cows were milked.
Chonaictheas na daoine.	The people were seen.
Do scaoiltí amach iad.	They used to be let loose.
Do scaoileadh amach na ba agus tugadh isteach na capaill as an bpáirc.	The cows were put out, and the horses were brought in from the field.
Cathain a cuirfear na muca go dtí an t-aonach?	When will the pigs be sent to the fair?
Téití go Cill Mo Bhí chun an Aifrinn fadó, ach tá séipéal againn ar an mbaile seo anois.	People used to go to Mass at Kilmovee long ago, but we have a chapel in this village now.
Ní fhacthas a leithéid riamh.	The like of it never was seen.
Dúradh leo dul chun cainte leis an stróinséir.	They were told to go to talk to the stranger.
Cad ’na thaobh nár hinseadh dom go rabhais anso?	Why was I not told that you were here?
Dá gceilfí an fhírinne, b’fhéidir go neosfaí bréag.	If the truth were concealed, perhaps a lie would be told.
D’fhan sé sa bhaile sara mbeifí ag magadh fé.	He stayed at home for fear people would be making fun of him.
Dúradh leis na páistí gan dul i n-aice na habhann.	The children were told not to go near the river.
Do hiarradh orthu teacht abhaile chun a ndinnéir.	They were asked to come home to their dinner.
Tar éis mo dhíchill ní bhítear buíoch díom.	Even after I have done my best, people are not grateful to me.
Is seanfhocal é: “an té atá thuas óltar deoch air agus an té atá thíos buailtear cos air.”	It is a proverb: “He who is up, his health is drunk, and he who is down is trampled under foot.”
Ní féidir an seanfhocal do shárú.	The proverb cannot be gainsaid.
Do díoladh é.	It was sold.
Do ceannaíodh iad.	They were bought.
Do marófaí sinn.	We would be killed.
Ní fhacthas í.	She was not seen.
Do cailleadh an t-airgead.	The money was lost.
Gheofar na leabhair.	The books will be found.
Do thánathas.	People came.
Do scaoileadh amach na gadhair.	The dogs were let loose.
Deintear bróga de leathar.	Shoes are made of leather.
Déintí d’adhmad iad fadó.	They used to be made of wood long ago.
Téitear go dtí an tábhairne uaireanta tar éis an aonaigh.	People sometimes go to the public-house after the fair.
Ní fhacthas na fir sin riamh roimis sin.	Those men were never seen before that.
Dúradh linn teacht anso tar éis dinnéir.	We were told to come here after dinner.
Cathain a díolfar na beithígh sin?	When will those cattle be sold?
Má dheineann tú é sin, déarfar gur le héad a dheinis é.	If you do that, people will say that it was through jealousy you did it.
Cad ’na thaobh go mbítear ag gearán i gcónaí?	Why are people always complaining?
Dá neosfaí an scéal mar ba cheart ní bheadh aon díobháil ann.	If the story had been told properly there would have been no harm in it.
Ní feicfear a leithéid go brách arís.	The like of it will never be seen again.
Deirtear nach ualach do dhuine an léann.	They say that “learning is no burden to a man.”
Cathain a dúradh é sin leat?	When were you told that?
Seanfhocal is ea é a cloistear go minic sa Ghaeltacht.	It is a proverb that is often heard in the Gaeltacht.
Chífid siad.	They shall see.
Do chonaiceabhair.	You all saw.
Do chífinn.	I would see.
Raghaimíd.	We shall go.
Do thánadar.	They came.
An raghfá?	Would you go?
An ndúirt sé?	Did he say?
Tiocfaimíd.	We shall come.
Ní fheicfidís.	They would not see.
Déarfá.	You would say.
Dúradar.	They said.
Cloisfidh mé.	I shall hear.
Ar chualabhair?	Did you all hear?
Ní fheicim.	I do not see.
Gheibhimíd.	We get.
Fuaireamair.	We got.
An bhfaigheann tú?	Do you get?
Gheobhad.	I shall get.
Ní bhfaighead.	I shall not get.
Dúradar ná faighfeá é, ach cloisim-se go bhfaighir.	They said that you would not get it, but I hear that you will.
Chonaic sibh.	You all saw.
Faighimíd.	We get.
