Liking, thinking, wishing. These are three states of desire that use special
ways of being said. Here are some example sentences to show you how these phrases work. If you hover your mouse arrow over the speaker icon you can hear the sentence spoken.

Is eagal liom ná fuil.	I am afraid it isn’t.
Dheineas dearmhad ar é a cheannach agus mé sa tsiopa.	I forgot to buy it when I was in the shop.
Is trua liom nár chuireas i gcuimhne dhuit é ach ní fhaca thú sarar imís.	I am sorry I did not remind you of it, but I did not see you before you went off.
Ar mhiste leat an fhuinneog a dhúnadh?	Would you mind closing the window?
Níor mhiste, ach ní féidir liom é.	No, but I can’t.
Ní miste dhúinn beagán oibre a dhéanamh.	We may as well do a bit of work.
An dóigh leat go mbeidh sé fuar um thráthnóna?	Do you think it will be cold this evening?
An mbeidh gá le tine againn?	Shall we need a fire?
Ní bheidh. Is cuma liom-sa mar gheall ar an bhfuacht.	No. I don’t mind the cold.
An bhfuil eolas na háite seo go maith agat?	Do you know this place well?
Tá go deimhin, ach níl a fhios agam cá bhfuil an t-ospidéal.	Indeed I do, but I do not know where the hospital is.
Féadfaidh mé é a fhiafraí de dhuine éigin.	I can ask someone.
Bhí aithne agam ar dhochtúir a bhí ann, ach fuair sé bás anuraidh.	I used to know a doctor there, but he died last year.
Bhí ana-mheas ag gach aon duine air, agus bhí san tuillte go maith aige.	Everyone liked him and he well deserved it.
Do dheineadh sé a dhícheall don té a bheadh breoite, agus níor mhór le haon duine dhó an t-airgead d’iarradh sé.	He used to do his best for anyone who was sick, and no one grudged him the money he asked.
Ba mhaith liom litir a scríobh, ach ní féidir liom peann d’fháil.	I would like to write a letter, but I cannot find a pen.
Cheannaigh m’athair ceann dom ach tá sé caillte agam.	My father bought one for me, but I have lost it.
Níor mhiste dhuit ceann eile a cheannach.	You might as well buy another.
Is leor aon cheann amháin dom.	One is enough for me.
Is fada liom fanúint go dtí go bhfaighead arís é.	I think it too long to wait until I will find it again.
Dob’ ionadh leo go rabhamair chomh tuirseach.	They wondered that we were so tired.
Cé acu is fearr leat, té nó bainne?	Which do you prefer, tea or milk?
Is cuma liom.	I do not care.
Bainfidh aon tsaghas dí an tart díom.	Any sort of drink will take my thirst away.
Gheobhaimíd go léir bás, ach níl a fhios againn cathain ná canad.	We shall all die, but we do not know when or where.
Is maith leis an ndochtúir a dhícheall a dhéanamh dúinn go léir.	The doctor likes to do his best for us all.
Ní miste leis fanúint leat.	He does not mind waiting for you.
Is trua linn moill a chur air.	We think it a pity to delay him.
Ar mhiste leat an doras a dhúnadh?	Would you mind closing the door?
Níor mhiste, ach ní dóigh liom go bhfuil sé ar oscailt.	No, but I do not think it is open.
An maith le Mícheál iasc i gcóir suipéir?	Does Michael like fish for supper?
Níl a fhios agam. Is fearr liom-sa uibhe.	I do not know. I prefer eggs.
An bhfuil a fhios agat cá bhfuil an stáisiún?	Do you know where the station is?
Níl a fhios, ach féadfaidh mé é a fhiafraí den gharda.	No, but I can ask it of the policeman.
Tá eolas an bhaile go maith aige.	He knows the town well.
