Prepositions, are the relationships between two nouns in a sentence, subject and object. Here are some sample sentences to show you how they work. If you hover your mouse over the speaker icon you can hear the sentence spoken.

Raghad ar an dtraein ó Magh Chromtha Dé hAoine.	I shall go by train from Macroom on Friday.
An bhfuilir chun mise d'fhágaint anso?	Are you going to leave me here?
Nílim. Féadfair-se teacht i n-éineacht liom.	No. You may come with me.
Gheobhair-se litir amáireach is dócha.	You will probably get a letter tomorrow.
Ar chualaís an scéal i dtaobh an triúir a chuaigh ag iascaireacht inné?	Did you hear the story about the three people who went fishing yesterday?
D'iompaigh an naomhóg orthu agus thánadar i dtír de shnámh.	Their canoe turned over and they swam ashore.
An bhfuil aithne agat orthu?	Do you know them?
Tá aithne mhaith agam ar dhuine acu agus do mholas dó gan dul amach i n-aon chor.	I know one of them well, and I told him not to go out at all.
Cad tá ar siúl amuigh ar an mbóthar?	What is going on out on the road?
Ná cloiseann tú an gleo? Ní chloisim.	Do you not hear the noise? No.
Tá na garsúin thoir fén bhfaill ag caitheamh cloch isteach sa bhfarraige.	The boys are east under the cliff throwing stones into the sea.
Gheobhaid siad ciall le haois!	They will get sense with age!
An bhféadfaidh sé bheith anso fé cheann uair an chloig?	Can he be here in an hour?
An bhfuairis aon scéal ó Mháirtín ó imigh sé?	Have you had any news from Martin since he went away?
Ní bhfuaireas. B'fhéidir go bhfaighinn litir uaidh sara fada.	No. Perhaps I shall get a letter from him before long.
Níor chualamair aon ní mar gheall air ach go bhfuil sé ar lóistín i n-éineacht lena dheartháir.	We have heard nothing about him except that he is lodging with his brother.
Is maith an scéal é sin, dá laghad é.	That is good news, little as it is.
Dá fhaid a fhanfaidh sé sa Ghaeltacht is ea is fearr a fhoghlaimeoidh sé an Ghaeilge.	The longer he stays in the Gaeltacht, the better he will learn Irish.
Dá fheabhas í an mhóin, is fearr an gual ná í.	Good as the turf is, coal is better.
Bhíodar go léir ag rince, idir bhuachaillí agus cailíní.	They were all dancing, both boys and girls.
Do bhriseadar an fhuinneog orm sarar imíodar.	They broke my window before they left.
An bhfuil a fhios agat cár chuadar? Níl a fhiosa.	Do you know where they went? No.
Tá imní orthu, mar fuaireadar drochscéal óna n-inín inniu.	They are anxious, for they got bad news from their daughter today.
Tá sí breoite agus ní fhéadfaidh sí teacht abhaile go dtí deireadh an mhí.	She is sick and she cannot come home till the end of the month.
An bhfuil a fhios agat cad a bhí uirthi? Níl a fhiosa.	Do you know what was wrong with her? No.
B'fhéidir go bhfaighimís litir amáireach uaithi.	Perhaps we shall get a letter from her tomorrow.
Ni bhfuaireas aon scéal óm mhuintir le seachtain.	I have not got any news from my people for a week.
Dá luaithe a scríobhfaidh tú chútha is ea is fearr.	The sooner you write to them the better.
Gheobhaidh tú freagra, is dócha.	You will probably get an answer.
Táid siad go léir imithe, idir fhir agus mná.	They have all gone away, both men and women.
D'iarr m'athair orm dul go dtí an siopa agus tobac d'fháil dó.	My father asked me to go to the shop and get him tobacco.
Fuaireas coróin uaidh.	I got five shillings from him.
Chuas síos go dtí an siopa.	I went down to the shop.
Nuair a chuas isteach, dúirt an cailín liom: Cad tá uait?	When I went in, the girl said to me: What do you want?
Ní bhfaighir aon tobac uaim-se, mar níl ionat ach leanbh.	You will not get any tobacco from me for you are only a child.
Abair le t'athair teacht.	Tell your father to come.
Do gháir m'athair nuair a chuala sé an scéal.	My father laughed when he heard the story.
Cé hé an fear san atá ina sheasamh os comhair na tine?	Who is that man who is standing in front of the fire?
Níl aon aithne agam air.	I do not know him.
Is é an máistir scoile é.	He is the school-master.
Nílid tagtha abhaile fós.	They have not come home yet.
Beidh tuirse agus ocras orthu tar éis na hoibre.	They will be tired and hungry after the work.
Codlóid siad go maith anocht.	They will sleep well tonight.
