Particles and Pronouns. Often we point to some person or thing in a sentence
by using a shorthand called pronouns. Here are some sample sentences to show you how they work. If you hover your mouse arrow over the speaker icon you can hear the sentence spoken.

D’fhéach sé. Níor fhéach sé. Ar fhéach sé? Nár fhéach sé?	he looked. He did not look. Did he look? Did he not look?
Do bhaineadar. Níor bhaineadar. Ar bhaineadar? Nár bhaineadar?	they cut They did not cut. Did they cut? Did they not cut?
D’iarr sibh. Níor iarr sibh. Ar iarr sibh? Nár iarr sibh?	You all asked You all did not ask. Did you all ask? Did you all not ask?
Do thuigis. Níor thuigis. Ar thuigis? Nár thuigis?	you understood. You did not understand. Did you understand? Did you not understand?
Níor chreid na páisti an scéal.	The children did not believe the story.
Ar thuigeadar an scéal? Níor thuigeadar.	Did they understand the story? No.
Nár nigh sí na miasa? Do nigh.	Did she not wash the dishes? Yes.
Níor scríobhas an litir.	I did not write the letter.
Ar ólais an bainne?	Did you drink the milk?
Níor chrúis an bhó.	You did not milk the cow.
Nár dhíoladar na capaill?	Did they not sell the horses?
Ar dhúnamair na fuinneoga?	Did we shut the windows?
Níor chaitheadar an t-airgead.	They did not spend the money.
Ar fhan sé sa bhaile mhór?	Did he stay in the town?
Nár fhéachadar ar an bpáipéar?	Did they not look at the paper?
Ar thit an páiste isteach insan uisce?	Did the child fall into the water?
Níor bhaineamair an féar fós.	We did not cut the hay yet.
Brisimíd iad.	We break them.
Do cheil sé é.	He concealed it.
Ligeann sé isteach sinn.	He lets us in.
Ar chuir sé amach sibh?	Did he put you out?
Do chailleamair iad.	We lost them.
Ar bhuail sé thú?	Did he strike you?
Níor chreideamair í.	We did not believe her.
D'fhág sí ann mé.	She left me there.
Tá mo leabhar-sa caillte, ach tá do leabhar-sa thall ar an stól.	My book is lost, but your book is over there on the stool.
Bead-sa ag imeacht amáireach.	I shall be going away tomorrow.
An mbeir féin ag dul go Baile Átha Cliath? Ní bhead.	Will you be going to Dublin yourself? No.
Tá mo mhac breoite agus caithfead fanúint sa bhaile.	My son is ill and I must stay at home.
Dheineas-sa mo dhícheall ach níor dheineadar-san pioc.	I did my best, but they did nothing.
Tá do lámha salach agus tá mo lámha-sa salach leis.	Your hands are dirty and my hands are dirty also.
Do bhí na cailíní tuirseach agus bhí na garsúin féin ag gearán.	The girls were tired and even the boys were complaining.
Nár chuir sé amach na gadhair fós?	Has he not put out the dogs yet?
Níor chuir, ach cuirfead-sa amach anois iad.	No, but I will put them out now.
D'itheamair-ne ár mbéile é chianaibh, agus beidh bhur gcuid-se fuar.	We ate our meal a while ago, and your share will be cold.
Tá m'athair i gCorcaigh ach tá t'athair-se sa bhaile.	My father is in Cork but your father is at home.
Mo hata-sa	My hat
do mhaide-se	your stick
a bhróga-san	his shoes
a bosca-sa	her box
ár leabhair-ne	our books
bhur n-athair-se	you all's father
a bpáistí-sean.	their children.
Creidim thú.	I believe you.
Ar chreidis í?	Did you believe her?
Do chuir sé iad-san amach agus do lig sé mise isteach.	He put them out and he let me in.
Ar fhágadar ann sibh?	Did they leave you all there?
Do chailleamair é.	We lost it.
Creideann sé sinn.	He believes us.
Tá mo thigh-se anso, agus tá a thigh-sean thall ansan ar an gcnoc.	My house is here, and his house is over there yonder on the hill.
Dhein seisean a dhícheall, ach níor dheinis-se pioc.	He did his best, but you did nothing.
Tá a bróga-sa nua agus tá mo bhróga-sa caite.	Her shoes are new and my shoes are worn out.
Tá ár leabhair-ne caillte, cá bhfuil bhur leabhair-se?	Our books are lost, where are your books?
Beimíd-ne ag imeacht amáireach, ach beidh sibh-se ag fanúint anso.	We will be going away tomorrow, but you will be staying here.
D'itheadar-san a ndinnéar ó chianaibh.	They ate their dinner a while ago.
Ar itheabhair-se bhur gcuid féin fós?	Have you had your share yet?
Bead-sa ag dul go Corcaigh agus beidh sise ag fanúint i mBaile Átha Cliath.	I shall be going to Cork and she will be staying in Dublin.
Do bhuaineamair ár gcuid coirce inné.	We reaped our oats yesterday.
Ar bhuaineabhair-se bhur gcuid féin fós?	Did you all reap your own share yet?
Do chreid sise an scéal, ach níor chreideas-sa pioc de.	She believed the story, but I did not believe none of it.
